Hello! Welcome to my creative media world.

I’m Jesse L. Sutherland — a passionate storyteller, creative media all-rounder, digital marketing strategist, social media content creator, and filmmaker. After spending six exciting years in Brisbane honing my craft, I’ve returned to my hometown of Toowoomba with a mission: to bring high-quality storytelling and digital marketing services to the local business community.

 

A little about me and my background:

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Media, majoring in Film & Television with a minor in Marketing, and I’m currently completing a Master’s Degree in Screen Direction. Over the years, I’ve created content for a wide range of businesses —from large corporations to small startups — working across digital marketing, social media management, influencer collaborations, brand strategy, and content creation.

 

My career kicked off at UniSQ while I was still studying. After graduation, I headed to Brisbane to dive into the industry, working with leading organisations such as Canstar, Absco Industries, W Hotel, Exercise & Sports Science Australia, and Bodytrack Exercise Physiology and most recently, as the Marketing & Social Media Manager for The Fit Lab Health & Fitness Centre — where I got to combine my passion for wellness and storytelling.

 

I’ve built strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues, managers, and stakeholders by embracing creativity, being open to feedback, tracking performance, learning from every step, and showing up with authenticity. My approach is simple: put heart into the work and people first.

 

Filmmaking is my creative heartbeat.

I love crafting short films and documentaries that move people — whether they make you laugh until your cheeks hurt, cry till your eyes puff up, or feel something deeply real. I’m proud to have been selected for the Screen Queensland & Australian Directors Guild’s ’Local 2 Global’ Directors Initiative — a program supporting emerging directors across Queensland. I’m currently working on my eighth short film and continuing to develop my voice as a writer and director. I am also the former Co-Founder and Co-Director of Sparrowland Short Film Festival and current Founder & Director of JLC Film Productions, an independent production company branching from JL Creative Media with a focus on telling stories that compel, shock, evoke emotion and spark conversation.

 

A few personal bits:

Born and raised in Toowoomba, I’m the eldest of five half-siblings. I love a good beach day, deep conversations, and sharing laughs with family and friends. As an OG Toowoombian, this town holds a special place in my heart — it feels good to be back and building my base here.
